Time to change tactics

These tranquil waters are up 16-feet and unsafe to fish now.

Record rains will change conditions. Fishing muddy water will be status quo these next few weeks. How will fishing conditions change? Most lakes and rivers have gone from clear to “soup”. Before we continue, make sure your waters are safe to fish. Rising waters will float new hazards too.

Jig colors that worked last week will likely have to be changed. Muddy water will require opaque colors. Glow colors like lime, orange, and chartreuse are good choices. Glow, Road Runner heads will improve visibility too.

Conditions with reduced visibility make scent more important. Try a scent additive like Stubby Steve’s.

Post cold front fish will want a slow presentation. The high pressure that follows the front will move fish down. (Barometric pressure reduces the size of a fish’s bladder.) Start fishing deep first and work shallower. Keep an eye on your line. Bites will likely be very subtle.

Bundle up. Be safe. Adapt to the new conditions for success.
Blessings, -tj
