A fishing challenge for you

Challenge me to make a memory.

“Accept the challenges so that you may feel the exhilaration of victory.”  –General George S. Patton

A whole new year stands before us. Challenge yourself to have the best fishing year you have ever had. Are you ready? Then let’s get started!

Now is the time to plan your trips. Yes, right now. Go ahead and unwrap that new calendar. Find the “full moon” days of each month. Commit to as many trips as possible during the week before. Chances are good you have picked at least twelve good fishing days. Next year is looking better already!

Are you ready to challenge yourself even more? Okay, pick a species you have never bagged before. If you have not caught a Tarpon, then go to the Florida Guides Association site and book a trip.

Guide, John Harrison with a Grenada Lake Crappie

Challenge yourself on size too. Catching Crappies is fun but how would catching a three-pound Crappie feel? Book a trip to Grenada Lake in MS and give it your best shot. Have you ever caught a Blue Cat over 50-pounds? Then book a trip on either Pickwick or Wilson lakes.

Memories are best when shared. So bring a friend, child, or grandchild. Double up on the fun and those memories. Challenge yourself to share the sport too.

Just to re-cap…

1.   Challenge yourself.

2.   Plan now. (“Ready, fire, aim” is not a plan.)

3.   Be creative. Choose a new species and new locations.

4.   Share your experiences with a friend or loved one.

Now have an awesome 2011! Blessings, -TJ

  1. Thanks for the inspiration TJ. I’m working on my blog for tomorrow about setting goals for 2011 in fishing. We’re obviously both goal/challenge oriented guys!

    Happy New Year!

That’s too funny Jason. I just read your article about 6:30 this morning and it was good reading as always. (Much better than mine!) Like you, I was blessed with one of the most memorable fishing years ever. My best wishes to you for a great 2011.
