“I wasn’t born this way; I was raised in a tackle shop for God’s sakes.”

Joking aside, growing up in the tackle business was a blessing. We quickly learned that helping anglers catch more fish meant happy, loyal customers. Dad loved to help anglers and I guess the apple orange didn’t fall far from the tree.

Whether I’m studying fish biology or developing new products; helping fishermen has been my mission these past 40-years.

There have been many rewarding moments for my efforts. For example an angler called and asked for “The guy that invented those Bleeding Hooks”. His call was to thank me and to say that this was the first time he’d out-fished his Granddad… That’s what I live for.

Our Pro-Staffers began to call with reports of their fishing successes. Many conducted their own tests and were amazed by the results. They were catching more fish and proved it time and again. It was one thing to know Bleeding Bait worked; but to hear their stories and their enthusiasm was another.

Industry leaders like Charlie Brewer Jr., Dick Henry at Sea Striker and Tommy at Strike King called about our research. It was humbling.

Not much has changed since my early years at Tim’s Tackle Box.  If we help enough anglers catch more fish, we’ll make a living.

Blessings, -TJ

If you’d like to learn more about fish; there are two magazines I recommend: Eddies, Reflection on Fishery Conservation and Pond Boss Magazine.

You may subscribe to FWS “Fish News” for regulatory information.  (Which has been terribly depressing these past two years) at: http://www.nmfs.noaa.gov/fishnews.htm .

If you’d like to learn even more about saltwater fish; then a visit to Sea Center Texas is an absolute must. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/visitorcenters/seacenter/ .

There will be a Catfish Symposium this summer. Visit: http://www.catfish2010.org for details.
